Cultured Clay Contemporary Latin American Ceramics

OPENING RECEPTION: First Friday, October 4th 6-8 pm
EXHIBITION DATES: October 4th - 25th, 2019

Cultured Clay: Contemporary Latin American Ceramics is an exhibition that highlights and celebrates local Latino ceramic artists. Each artist, from different Latin American countries, come together to showcase their contemporary ceramic works side-by-side at CCC. Drawing on personal experiences and cultural environments, these artists share their perspectives, which helps broadened the scope of arts and culture in our small community.  Although from different backgrounds, they all share the unique interest of clay and the Roaring Fork Valley. The Carbondale Clay Center would like to pay homage to their contribution to the diversity of our community.

One of the participating artists, Louise Deroualle, speaks about her work. “The artwork I create with this clay is influenced by the different cultural experiences to which I have been exposed and the way those interactions build my identity. Cultural and language barriers provoke a sense of displacement and generate a wide range of emotional reactions that shape my perception of and interaction with the outer world. I translate these feelings into my objects through expressive surfaces created by the layering of ceramic materials.” CCC would not only like to show recognition, but also appreciation of the Latin American community at large in the Roaring Fork Valley.

Cultured Clay: Contemporary Latin American Ceramics will be on display at the Carbondale Clay Center Gallery from October 4th through 25th. The Carbondale Clay Center is located at 135 Main Street, Carbondale, CO 81623. Gallery Hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
