DIA DE LOS MUERTOS

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS

First Friday, November 3

The Thunder River Theatre, Carbondale Arts, Valley Settlement Project, Carbondale Creative District, and the Third Street Center are all working together to make the 13th Annual Dia De Los Muertos Celebration an incredibly inclusive community event during November’s First Friday in Carbondale on Nov. 3 from 5 to 8p.m.

This celebration combines music, dance, puppetry, storytelling, special foods and traditions together to honor those who have left us. Festivities start at 5pm at the Third Street Center (TSC) for altar viewing, face painting, Mexican hot chocolate, and traditional treats.

At 6:15pm, a procession begins at TSC concludes at the Thunder River Theatre for “Que Viva”, a ceremony honoring those who have left us. Bring your flashlights, candles, or glow sticks for the procession as it will be dark!

Two viewings of Aspen Sante Fe Ballet Folklorico will take place at 7pm and again at 7:45pm at the Thunder River Theatre. At these same times (7pm & 7:45pm), the puppet show “A Delfinita la Visita La Chokani / Delfinita Gets A Visit From La Chokani”  by Mexican Playwright Karmina L. Fanjúlby will be performed at The Launchpad by Carbondale’s El Colectivo. All these events are free to the public.

Each of these activities are free to the community and costumes are encouraged! If you would like to volunteer or have questions, contact Carbondale Arts at (970)963-1680.

In honor of Dia de los Muertos, Carbondale Arts invites those who have lost loved ones, or who feel drawn to create an altar, to participate in Remembering the Dead Altar Show. The altars will be on display in the Round Room at the Third Street Center from November 1-7. Dia de los Muertos is sponsored by Carbondale Arts, the Third Street Center, Thunder River Theater, The Valley Settlement Project and the Carbondale Creative District. Gracias!
